How to Prepare for an MRI

Are you headed for your first MRI? There are a few things that you need to do before you head outpreparing for an open MRI for your appointment. Here are a few things you need to remember before going to an MRI scan.

Limit your jewelry & accessories – Before heading to your MRI appointment, try to eliminate the amount of jewelry and accessories you’re wearing. This includes things like earrings, necklaces, watches, and bracelets. Additionally, you’ll want to remove anything prior to going into the scan that has metal or could affect the MRI. These are things like glasses, hearing aids, any dental work with metal in it, and underwire bras.

Have your current list of medications on hand – Before your MRI, a technician will ask you what medications you’re currently taking and at what dosage. If you have multiple medications you take, it’s important to write them down, along with the dose and frequency as well. This is really important for the technician to know prior to the scan, in case there are any medications that could interfere with the procedure.
